Easter 2013

Hi there! In an effort to blog more and have a better place than Facebook for all my pictures to live, I decided to resurrect this ole blog of mine and post something for pete's sake!

I had a rare weekend completely off (I'm a photographer...check out my Facebook page!), and I vowed to take candid pictures of my son and family and enjoy myself with them. I want to be a more consistent blogger like my idol!

Here is our weekend! It's really just a ton of pictures of my silly little baby/toddler! Enjoy. :)

Saturday we enjoyed dinner at my moms followed by an Easter bunny pinta, an egg hunt, and egg dying! It was hectic but a lot of fun! My sister in law and I wrangled all three kids and got some pretty cool looking eggs out of it.

Sunday the Easter bunny came and Jack got some cool stuff. I really debated what to buy for this basket because I don't want it to become out of hand but I ended up getting him a lot of art stuff (crayons, water colors, sidewalk chalk) and books. He did get some candy because you gotta have a chocolate bunny in ya basket, right? Of course it was dark chocolate because my baby is going to appreciate good chocolate. ;)

We headed over to Carl's parents for food and some NCAA bball action. We're cheered on the Louisville Cardinals who advanced to the Final Four!! Yea baby!

That's pretty much it! Jack was pooped both nights and crashed in his car seat. Carl and I took advantage of a babysitter and headed to Applebees for their happy hour and enjoyed a Shock Top and some great conversation. It has really been too long since we've been away from the little guy.

Memorizing The Moments

Tonight we went out to eat with my Dad and Step-mom and on the way home Jack was screaming; he wanted to nurse and go to bed...that or just get out of the car!

When we got home I promptly changed his diaper, and put his pj's on him, he was calm by this point so I let him walk around his room before bedtime. Eventually he wobbled over to me and fell into me; he was ready for bed.
I nursed him but he was restless. Usually he nurses to sleep, or really tired from nursing, or fights it and wants to play. Tonight was the latter. (sigh)

We went to his room and started nursing some more. He continued to sit up and I put him in his crib. I played a little peek-a-boo, kissed him and said goodnight. As I left he screamed. And screamed. I went in to comfort and left again, and he screamed again. I thought I was going to have to nurse him to sleep. I waited 5-10 minutes and went in to find him laying down and getting up but so incredibly sleepy. I picked him up and calmed him and started singing our families favorite song, The World As I Know It by Jason Mraz. Seriously it immediately calms him when he's upset. To my surprise he let me hold him without nursing and fell asleep in my arms.
Sometimes I'm so quick to have him asleep to "carry on with my night" that I forget to cherish the moments.
Then I thought about my grandfather having dinner with his son and all the memories that must flood him.
To him life must seem so short.
Tonight I held him longer and memorized the moment. I prayed to my future self to remember my sweet chubby faced little boy asleep in my arms, asleep from his momma his favorite person singing and comforting him, loving him while he drifted off to dreamland. I prayed I would remember his laughs tonight in the car while being tickled on the palms of his hand and his chunky thighs.

I held my baby boy closer and promised I would love more, love deeper, and spend more time with my family.

Now, I'm so weepy.

Meal Plan Monday

source

I'm back to full time Paleo. I love the "paleo"; or no grain, no dairy, no sweets way of living, but I've slid a little and indulged here and there. I'm totally fine with that but my body isn't. My skin is breaking out BAD, my belly is being complicated, and I'm feeling a bit sluggish so I'm cutting out dairy, grains, and sweets...again. Sweets are my kryptonite.

Here's our meal plan for the week.

Spaghetti Squash w. Sausage and Greens
Tuna Cakes Salad
Steak w. Side (Veggies/Salad/Sw. Pot. Fries)

Yum!

Working It Out-Morning Run

I feel I'm in a great place with my workouts lately. I've been using P90X2 for most of my workouts for the past 9+ months but I've changed it up recently by adding a morning run. I still do a DVD every other day or when I can. It all started with this blog post about intermediate fasting, something I've been looking into for a while, and immediately decided to start fasting that evening and run the following the morning.

And I did just that and I was hooked. I've always wanted to be a morning "workouter" but, oh, it's HARD to wake up! Especially when you stay up past midnight most nights. I love that I can buckle the baby in the stroller and not wait till his nap to workout, I love that the weather IS AWESOME, and I love that my workout is effectively O V E R for the day! Nothing hanging over my head all day or putting off my shower waiting to get the workout over done. Now I get the babes down for a nap, shower, and enjoy a cup of coffee while blog reading! I don't know what I'll do when winter hits and it's colder than the north  pole.

As for IF, that has been great as well. I feel a bit liberated not worrying about eating all the time and I've seen a difference in my belly fat, which is great as any mother will tell you!

Enjoy the day!

Master Bedroom Mood Board

For reasons unbeknownst to me I spent a good portion of yesterday putting together and mostly finalizing a mood board for our master bedroom. I used Olioboard when designing my son's nursery and I find it the best way to see your vision right in front of your face. I won't use the exact items on this board; for me its mostly about colors and styling. I'll hit Target, TJ Maxx, and thrift stores to purchase and DIY what I can.

Here are the three final contenders with the first being our favorite. We like the dark mirror, blue rug and the lamp, which are the only differences.

We have most of the pieces that we can re purpose thankfully.
Here's the to do:
Purchase rug.
Paint bedside tables.
Purchase/DIY sunburst mirror.
Purchase duvet cover (I have one in mind from IKEA).
Hang light fixture (Already own one similar).
Paint hanging mirror.
Stain/paint dresser/mirror.
Purchase accessories (vases, fan, lamp, throw rug, pillow, etc).

Whats your vote? Brown or white mirror? Blue patterned rug or natural jute rug? Clear vase with yellow shade or yellow lamp with white shade?

Jack 10 Months

It's happened again. Jack has grown another month! He is now 10 months old.
Double digits.
sniff sniff.

Can I just say, I love babies! They are the coolest creatures to watch. The learning that happens daily is very entertaining. I love it. They come with their own headaches, but you will get much more in smiles and warm fuzzies.

My little guy loves playing in his room. He can entertain himself for a long time with me peeking. So far he sticks to his toys and doesn't bother with much else in his room; in the living room or the office it's fair game. We have not baby proofed much anything. A friend advised us to wait and see what he gets into.

I'm terrible about getting Jack out in our back yard or anyones to play in dirt and grass. I don't like itchy grass so I figure he wont either. So the other day I stood him up by one of our raised bed gardens and he had some fun digging in the dirt. Yep he ate some but for the most part he played in it. I feel more confident I can let him play in his grandma's sandbox.

Sophie is still his favorite dog or the only dog that gives him any attention. He pulls up on her, tugs on her ears, will bite her, and she comes back every time. She loves the boy. The boy loves her. It's very sweet.

We've had some cold weather so I broke out the footie PJ's and they are ridiculously cute. I just love pj's!!! I also love the messy hair in this picture.

We were playing peek a boo! I missed the actual peeks before the boo but I snapped a couple of him
playing with the curtain.

ANDDDD my little guy literally hide from me while I was taking his picture. "no more mama!"

Jack had his first bout of illness this month where he threw up, had a high temp, and the other stuff...you know coming from the other end. This picture is right before he threw up the first time; guess I shouldn't have given him that smoothie. woops.

I have the sweetest baby upon waking and here he was giving smiles. I grabbed my camera and missed it but I will always remember that moment, and that's the point.

Likes-puff, rolling, tumbling, laughing with you, all the dogs, biting (what to do?), morning runs
Dislikes-liver pate, leafy grins, not being picked up when he wants to, a toy not working for him
Teeth-Six!
Words-Bye bye, ma ma, da da, pa pa (uncomfirmed ;)
First sentence-"I go bye bye!" (it's what it sounded like!?!)

I love:
When he sees me and stops what he's doing to crawl to me, laughing all the way. So sweet.
Anytime Carl is talking (mostly at dinner) Jack will talk over him. haha!
His excitement when Dada is home.
That first smile I get in the morning after he nurses.
That he plays peek a boo with his blanket in his crib. Funny and cute. :)

Gosh, I love this kid!
